Organizing First Responder Groups

We are expanding our focus beyond educational delivery to serve as an Advisement and Technical Assistance Center, supporting regional communities in developing EMS First Responder Groups.

Across the state and nation, EMS systems thrive on dedicated volunteers and community members. We are no different! However, the formal organization of First Responder Services can help your community access funding, training, and long-term support.

Contact us today to join an organized First Responder Group or learn how to start one in your community! Together, we can strengthen local emergency response and build sustainable EMS solutions.

Healthcare Provider BLS: Blended Learning Heart Code Skills Check

Healthcare Professionals

This course is designed for healthcare providers and support staff in healthcare facilities!

CPR competency is critical to victim survival. Skills testing ensures competency and proper execution.

HeartCode BLS is the AHA's BLS blended learning delivery method. Blended learning is a combination of online learning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session. After practice, students must demonstrate competency without any assistance, hints or prompting. Course duration for skills checks vary greatly in time but you should anticipate a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour for completion. We are committed to spending as much time as needed with the hands on portion of this class to ensure perfect execution during your skills demonstration.

Prior to taking this course the following must be met:

  • Purchase the on-line HeartCode BLS course through the following site: HeartCode® BLS | AHA
  • Complete the on-line HeartCode BLS course.

Upon successful completion of the skills exam:

  • You will be emailed a link to claim your BLS Provider eCard

The Maniilaq Emergency Medical Service's (EMS)/ Northwest Arctic Region EMS  (NWAR-EMS) mission is to support the development and sustainability of EMS in the Northwest Arctic Region. This is accomplished by acting as the region’s resource center for instructors, certifying officers, providers, and community members.

The program designates representatives to work in collaboration with the State Office of Emergency Medical Services (SOEMS); and provides representation on the State Training Committee, State Medical Direction Committee, and a Regional Director reporting to the State Office of Emergency Medical Services.

In addition to representing and advocating for regional EMS issues, NWAR-EMS is responsible for collaborating with Alaska's other regional councils to administer and manage Code Blue capitol grant funds throughout our state.
