Northwest Arctic Region EMS Presents:

Emergency Medical Technician Bridge Course (EMT)

EMT Refresher

This "Bridge Course" is designed for existing ETTs to become Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). The State of Alaska offers reduced requirements in class hours and curriculum given students valid and existing ETT certification. Scope of practice and responsibility of this level of certification is greatly expanded from that of ETT. The primary focus of the EMT is to provide basic emergency medical care, skills, and transportation for critical and emergent patients, and provide leadership on scene. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.

Successful completion of this course leads to eligibility to take State of Alaska EMT Certification Exams. The instructor will arrange a testing time and place for students to test as a group.

Course Requirements:

  1. Current NOT EXPIRED ETT certification
  2. Internet Connection
  3. Access to Google Classroom
  4. Required Text (will be supplied to you)

Attendance:
For each course, Alaska has set a minimum objectives list which must be completed prior to course completion, each course day will be filled with material as well as time to complete psychomotor skills. There is not time built into the schedule to make up for missing class. Therefore, punctual attendance is expected of each student. Any Student who fails to attend 90% of the course hours will not be eligible for State testing.

If you must miss class, it is up to you to work with your instructor as soon as practical to discuss if there are alternate ways of meeting the course objectives.

Course Documentation:
It is the responsibility of the student to provide any prerequisite documentation required for the class by the second class period. Ongoing course records such as skills portfolio sheets will be retained by the student until they are completed, at which point the instructor will upload them to the class file and to the State of Alaska as appropriate.

Administrative Withdrawal:
The student may be withdrawn from the course for violations of course and department policy.

Grades:
These courses are Pass/Fail at the state level. Assessments will be provided to help you judge your progress, if you identify a weak area, please contact your instructor.

Course Completion Requirements:

  1. Attend 90% of class hours
  2. Turn in all required prerequisite documentation
  3. Complete the skills portfolio
  4. Successful completion of State Written Exam with a 70% or higher (Up to 2 retests are available)
