Community Emergency Response Training
EMS BLITZ WEEK is a regional training initiative designed to strengthen community-level emergency response across the Northwest Arctic. During designated training weeks, a certified EMS instructor will travel to each village and spend 24 hours providing focused, practical instruction in basic emergency response skills.
This course introduces the fundamentals of community emergency care and serves as an entry point into Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT) training. Participants will learn how community members can organize, stabilize, and assist during medical emergencies while supporting local CHA/Ps and responding agencies.
What You Will Learn
- Basic scene organization and safety principles
- Initial patient assessment and stabilization
- Patient packaging and preparation for transport
- Effective teamwork during community emergencies
- How to pursue further EMS or ETT training opportunities
Who Should Attend
Community members age 16 and older who are interested in learning how to respond effectively during a medical emergency are encouraged to participate. No prior medical experience is required.
Whether you are exploring a future in EMS, considering CHA/P pathways, or simply want to be prepared to help a neighbor in need, this course provides practical, hands-on training that can make a meaningful difference in your community.
Participant Expectations
To ensure a safe and productive learning environment, all participants must arrive sober and prepared to engage respectfully in training activities. This course includes hands-on skills practice and requires clear judgment, cooperation, and a willingness to learn.
Any participant who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave immediately. Maintaining a professional, focused, and respectful atmosphere is essential to the success of this training and the safety of all attendees.
All dates and times are subject to weather and flight conditions. A VHF announcement will be made the day of class once instructors have safely arrived in the community and give exact times and location for class.
